One question we are frequently asked concerns table size, so we thought we would address that here to help with your next project.

To size a table to a room subtract 6' from the length and width of the room (or any furniture along the wall like one of our console tables) this will give you the maximum length and width the table can be, giving three feet all the way around for walking room. Subtract 6' from the smallest room dimension and that will give you the maximum table diameter.

Below is an example dining room:

In open spaces, use the 3' rule to find the maximum size of a table measuring 3' from the nearest walls or objects like a kitchen island to find the maximum size.

Below is an example.

One trick we like to use and will recommend to customers is it to use painters tape and mark on the floor the rough size you have in mind. leave it there a few days walking around it, treating it as if the table was there to get a sense of how it will function in the space.
